Primary NQT Induction Training

Primary NQT Induction Training 2018-19

 About the 2018-19 Primary NQT Induction Training Programme

This central induction programme is designed to welcome newly qualified primary teachers into the profession and Local Authority (LA) and to complement school-based induction.

The programme is a partnership provision across Wokingham and Reading Local Authorities and builds on strong links with Reading University ensuring a strong follow on from Initial Teacher Training provision.

The sessions focus on developing skills and confidence as a classroom teacher and reflect the professional standards for teachers.  The programme uses a blend of providers including current highly- skilled classroom practitioners, as well as nationally renowned experts in their field.  

Whilst sessions are scheduled across the whole academic year, NQTs are strongly advised to book onto all their required sessions early in the year to secure places which are available on a first come first served basis.

Included in the package cost are:

- A spring term conference “Securing Success” looking at the latest developments in best practice, along with workshops including


- Specific EYFS sessions for Early Years practitioners


- Subject specific development opportunities and practice development to build on prior learning from ITT and deepen pedagogical practice


- Practice area workshops on inclusion, specific SEND needs, planning, behaviour management, and managing others


- A concluding one day summer celebration conference “Sustaining Success” which will include preparation for stepping into subject leadership and a look at “deep learning” with renowned trainer Andy Hind
 

The programme provides networking opportunities along with bespoke workshop sessions to meet the needs of the group.

Schools are able to book a package at the rates shown below, or opt for 'Pay as you go'.  The individual 'Pay as you go' course charges are shown in the details for each course.

Package Options and Costs

Package costs

  • Full year package subscription:£660
  • NQTs continuing induction from 2016-17 will be charged£280 for one term or£480 for two terms.This would also apply to January 2019 new starters.


Subscriptions to the annual package must be made before Friday 21st September 2018 to qualify for the package rate.

NB All Newly Qualified Teachers joining schools in the Borough and registered with Wokingham Local Authority as the Appropriate Body by Friday 21st September 2018 will automatically be invited to the NQT Induction Essentials Workshop on the 3rd October 2018. This is provided at no cost to schools accessing the Appropriate Body service and should be attended by all NQTs.

This session will cover everything you need to know to make your induction year a success.

Course Description

This session will cover:

  • statutory information about induction - including roles and responsibilities, statutory induction entitlements, gathering evidence and tracking progress, how progress is monitored and support available
  • the real truth about induction, hear from teachers who have just finished
  • Its all about you! take away essential hints and tips on how to manage the pressure of the job from Grant Payne at the Life partnership
  • networking opportunity to meet other NQTs from Reading and Wokingham Schools

Effectively Managing Behaviour & Creating a Positive Climate for Learning

Course Outline

This session will enable NQTs to get a broader understanding of behaviour management and classroom environment

Course Description

This course will enable NQTs to:

  • have a clearer understanding of different personality profiles and how these impact on the relationships we build with children
  • take away information on the range of positive classroom management skills/strategies which help to keep the pupil/teacher relationship intact
  • have an understanding of how to access support networks
  • take away practical ideas and resources for promoting and rewarding appropriate behaviour
  • have an understanding of the use of circle time as a means of finding agreement on rules and routines and problem solving together


Course Outcome

NQTs will be more confident in managing behaviour and creating the right learning environment.

This course will look at the principles of school curriculum planning.  The delegates will investigate the way these principles can lead to a scheme of work; the way this scheme of work can be translated into termly and weekly plans, and how these weekly plans then translate into daily planning

This session will give you an opportunity to work together to plan and build knowledge on transitioning children from EYFS to National Curriculum and to collaboratively analyse data and then look specifically at your own data.

Course Description

This session will focus on:

  • transitioning children from EYFS to National Curriculum - preparing them for Year 1
  • looking at data you will consider gaps and what strategies can be put in place to enable more children to achieve GLD. 
  • Also we will look at common anomalies in data.
  • build your knowledge  and understanding to be able to talk about your data, look for planning implications in data and to consider environment in relation to data gaps

Course Outline

Hone your skills in delivering inspirational practical activities and develop your teaching skills to inspire and engage pupils

Course Description

Course includes:

  • Engage your pupils in science through higher order thinking.
  • Building on the “Bright Ideas Time” model developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford Brookes. Discuss the use of Bright Ideas to engage pupils, combined with a range of exciting practical lesson starters that will captivate your class and get them asking questions.
  • All of the practical demonstrations will use household equipment to illustrate science concepts from irreversible change to Bernoulli’s principle and can be conducted in a couple of minutes to WOW your pupils.

The conference will focus on preparing teachers for the next stage of their career and their second year of teaching.

The sessions will:

  • focus on the next steps for your career development and direction as you prepare to take on additional responsibility and accountability
  • maximising your practice and the achievement of your pupils through an understanding of deep learning experiences, the impact your teaching has on the different types of learners in your class and how to plan for them led by Andy Hind from Education 4 Schools Services

This venue is easily accessed by car with free parking. If travelling by public transport you can get to the venue via train to Winnersh station or bus to Sainsburys Winnersh. Walking to the venue from these locations takes around 10/15 minutes.
