Below are guidance documents and teaching materials to support schools in working with EAL learners. Select the relevant category from the dropdown menu to view the materials for each.
Details of note
Reading
- The reading grids uploaded under the reading section of the menu were devised by Reading Borough Council Equality Services. Teach/ translate the question words before reading and ask children to complete the grid after reading. (Children who are literate in their first language could write in their first language).
- Reciprocal Teaching is a way of structuring guided reading sessions. The documents labelled as such were created by Reading Borough Council Equality Services.
- Young Teachers are children who have been trained to support their peers with reading. The documents labelled "Young Teachers" were created by Reading Borough Council Equality Services.
