Instrumental and vocal music services to pupils in Wokingham schools are mainly provided by the Berkshire Music Trust as part of the Berkshire Music Hub. The Trust was formerly known as Berkshire Maestros and also as BYMT (Berkshire Young Musicians Trust). The Berkshire Music Trust acts as the lead organisation within the Berkshire Music Hub.
Instrumental lessons and ensembles take place in schools and at other music centres within and outside the Local Authority area.
If you would like more information about the Berkshire Music Trust and the services provided, the Head Office phone number is 0118 901 2350. The Chief Executive of Berkshire Maestros is Dawn Wren. The Berkshire Maestros website is at http://www.berkshiremusictrust.org.uk

AIPS
Pupils at Wokingham schools may be able to take advantage of the Assisted Instrument Purchase Scheme (or equivalent scheme for Academies). These schemes support young musicians by allowing them to purchase instruments VAT free, and are approved by HM Revenue and Customs (more HMRC information here).
The document at this link includes an interpretation of HMRC guidance and a suggested form to use to guide and record the process. This guidance was last updated in January 2015.
Any decision to participate in the AIPS rests with the school. Schools need to ensure they understand the scheme and are entitled to make use of the provisions.
