Music Tuition

Instrumental and vocal music services to pupils in Wokingham schools are mainly provided by Berkshire Maestros as part of the Berkshire Music Hub.  Berkshire Maestros was formerly known as BYMT (Berkshire Young Musicians Trust).  Within the Berkshire Music Hub, Maestros act as the Hub Lead Organisation.

Instrumental lessons and ensembles take place in schools and at other music centres within and outside the Local Authority area.

If you would like more information about the Berkshire Maestros and the services provided, the Head Office phone number is 0118 901 2350. The Chief Executive of Berkshire Maestros is Dawn Wren. The Berkshire Maestros website is at http://www.berkshiremaestros.org.uk

More information about Berkshire Maestros is also available in the Service Directory on the main Council website at the link below:

Pupils at Wokingham schools may be able to take advantage of the Assisted Instrument Purchase Scheme (or equivalent scheme for Academies).  These schemes support young musicians by allowing them to purchase instruments VAT free, and are approved by HM Revenue and Customs.

Wokingham Borough Council encourages schools and Academies to participate in the scheme, but the final decision rests with the school.

The document at this link includes an interpretation of HMRC guidance and a suggested form to use to guide and record the process.  This guidance was last updated in January 2015.
