Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA) remains an ongoing concern both locally and nationally. Joining this training will enable you to familiarise yourself with the Wokingham EBSA guidance, equipping you with effective strategies and practical tools to support children's emotional wellbeing and promote increased attendance.

Who should attend

School setting staff and those working in Wokingham who provide support to children and families experiencing EBSA.

Course outcomes

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Clearly define Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA) and describe whole-school approaches that can support pupils and help prevent EBSA.
  • Recognise which children and young people in their school may be at risk of, or currently experiencing, EBSA.
  • Systematically gather relevant assessment information from pupils, school staff, and families to inform understanding of EBSA cases.
  • Bring together assessment data to collaboratively create a shared, comprehensive understanding of each pupil’s EBSA presentation and needs.
  • Design, implement, and review effective and tailored support plans within the school to address EBSA and promote positive outcomes.
