Health & Safety Management for Head Teachers and Senior Leaders [REFRESHER]
This is a half-day refresher for Head Teachers and senior leaders who have previously attended the WBC full-day course on Health and Safety Management. It is recommended that a refresher course is attended on a 3-yearly cycle.
This interactive course will allow delegates to raise issues and ask questions to help gain a fuller appreciation of what needs to be done and how to go about it. Learning and understanding will be evaluated with the use of informal questions.
Who should attend
Those who have in the past attended the WBC one-day H&S Management for Head Teachers course.
This session has been designed to provide Head Teachers, Deputy Heads, Business Managers etc. with an update and refresher together with an awareness of what they practically need to do to ensure compliance with legislation and best practice guidance. In particular: the latest Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance applicable to schools - 'Sensible Health and Safety Management in Schools'; any significant changes in legislation; what Headteachers need to ensure is happening within their area of control to maintain legislative compliance and meet with best practice.
Course outcomes
It is strongly recommended that Headteachers attend a refresher course at three-yearly intervals. Even where the Head Teacher has delegated tasks and responsibilities, the overall accountability for the day-to-day management of H&S at their school remains with the Headteacher so ideally they need to attend the refresher.
Candidates will:
- gain an overview of any legislative changes/recen updates
- Gain knowledge of what needs to be practically done to satisfy legal requirements for managing key risks within schools
- have an opporunity to discuss their health and safety issues or concerns and learn from colleagues
