Making Sense of Autism (AET training, supported by DfE)
This is an awareness-raising course that introduces autism and the areas of difference. It explores areas of difference in terms of strengths and support needs and identifies some initial reasonable adjustments when supporting neurodivergent pupils
Who should attend
Anyone working in a school environment, whether they are teachers, learning support assistants, school meals supervisors, school business managers, site staff or office staff. It could also be suitable for taxi drivers and schools escorts.
Course outcomes
This course aims to:
- Extend delegates' understanding of how autism affects pupils in school.
- Increase delegates' expertise in recognising an autistic pupil's individual strengths and differences.
- Develop delegates' skills in identifying barriers to learning for autistic pupils.
- Develop delegates' understanding of what reasonable adjustments need to be made to support an autistic pupil in their setting.
