This Roundtable will explore how teachers adapt writing instruction to ensure every pupil can succeed as a writer while maintaining ambitious expectations for all. Discussion will focus on how responsive teaching that is grounded in accurate assessment, clear modelling and well-judged scaffolds will help pupils overcome barriers in both transcription and composition. Leaders will consider practical approaches such as oral rehearsal, guided writing, and breaking complex tasks into manageable steps to reduce cognitive load while still building fluency and independence. The session will also highlight how motivation, purposeful feedback, and opportunities for success strengthen pupils’ self-belief and help them develop the stamina, precision, and confidence needed to write effectively across the curriculum
