Health and Safety course for Site Controllers/Caretakers/Handypersons
A one-day course to assist site controllers/caretakers/handypersons etc. to understand their health and safety responsibilities and manage the risks associated with their activities.
Who should attend
School Site Controllers, Caretakers, Building Handypersons and others with building-related responsibilities. The course is suitable as induction training for those new to the role or as a refresher for those who have attended previous training. It is advised that refresher training is undertaken every three years.
Course outcomes
- understanding of the importance of implementing and maintaining safe working practices
- an overview of the requirement for risk assessment and principles of risk management
- awareness of good practice in lone working
- approach and techniques to adopt to protect health and safety in manual handling
- competence in changing lamps, bulbs etc and visual checking of cable use and storage of hazardous substances
- awareness of key arrangements for maintenance of buildings/equipment/services and record keeping
- selection/control of contractors and use of permits to work
- risks associated with asbestos
- fire prevention and management
Other information
This is an in person training session.
Car parking: There is no parking available on site at Shute End. Most local carparks have time restricted parking. As this is an all-day event, we recommend the Carnival Car Park as it allows for parking all day.
Refreshments & lunch: Refreshments are available from the vending machines in the building. A packed lunch can be brought along, or lunch can be purchased in town.

Cancellation charges will apply for late cancellations or non-attendance on the day, this is in-line with our cancellation policy.
