Preparing to welcome new arrivals with EAL to your school
This course focuses on whole school provision to ensure that new arrivals feel a sense of belonging at your school, and will cover: The varied backgrounds and needs of children who are newly arrived from abroad, including refugees; Aspects of welcoming and induction for new arrivals from abroad, including initial assessment and information gathering, engaging with parents, initial support, creating a welcoming whole school environment, support for children who are refugees; Useful sources of guidance and resources to support provision for new arrivals, including refugees.
Who should attend
Headteachers, senior leaders, EAL co-ordinators in primary and secondary schools
Course outcomes
Understanding of the needs of children who are new to the country, including refugees, and beginner learners of EAL; Knowledge that will enable you to review and develop your whole school provision for welcoming children who are newly arrived from abroad, including refugees.
