This two-part training offers new ways of framing incidents and issues of racial harm, which leads to new approaches in responding to and managing them. Content includes: understanding the range of racialized experiences that young people have and how they navigate these; examining common school approaches (dismissive, punitive, corrective); exploring trauma-informed responses; rethinking intent and impact; working towards more restorative approaches for incident/issue management.

Who should attend

Headteachers and senior leaders; Racial equity leaders; Pastoral/ behaviour leads. If possible, two members of staff from each participating school, ideally with one being a person of colour member of staff. Pre-requisite for this course: Attendance at the Racial Literacy 101 course.

Course outcomes

New ways of understanding incidents of racial harm, and knowledge and confidence to develop new approaches to responding and managing issues in school.
