Note: This is a 2 session event. The first session is in-person and the second via Zoom.
The course consists of four modules, which will be delivered across one full day in-person, and a twilight via zoom.
Monday 17th March 9.30 – 3.30 at The Oakwood Centre
Modules 1 – 3:
- Key curriculum principles for embedding representation, including pupil audit tools and artbased examples and resources.
- Exploration of ‘race’ and racism in-depth, empowering participants to engage in discussions on these topics confidently. •

A framework for racial literacy in the primary curriculum, emphasising key themes and ageappropriate progression.
Tuesday 25th March 4 – 6pm via Zoom
Module 4:
- Diverse artists and arts projects for primary arts education, to help students develop critical evaluative skills. (The course incorporates elements of the ‘Racial literacy for school staff’ course, and the ‘Racial Literacy Curriculum Framework’ course, which some colleagues will have previously attended, with a particular focus on art.)
Who should attend
Art subject leaders, and any primary school teacher
Suitable for teachers who have not attended any racial equity courses previously.
Course outcomes
- Learn how to create inclusive classrooms that authentically reflect the diverse experiences and identities of students.
- Explore sensitive issues of ‘race’, racism and representation in a safe and supportive environment, with a focus on the arts and culture.
- Learn how to approach the challenges of effectively integrating diversity and representation into the primary curriculum.
- Gain the tools and support needed to navigate complex issues.
- Gain a rich variety of ideas, and inspiration for how to implement them
