Description

Wokingham Borough Council has a legal duty to ensure schools under their control are provided with relevant information and guidance in order to comply with relevant Health and Safety legislation. Therefore, there is a requirement that all Head Teachers and senior leaders of maintained schools attend a one-day Health and Safety foundation course in order to demonstrate the required level of competence and awareness. It is recommended that Head Teachers, School Business Managers and other members of the SLT attend the full course.

Academies and free schools must make their own arrangements to keep their Head Teachers, school leaders and staff trained, but this delegated duty would be fulfilled by attending this local authority run course.

Who should attend

Head Teachers (unless they have previously attended), Deputy Head Teachers, School Business Managers or other key members of the school management team who have specific, delegated responsibilities for ensuring Health and Safety is effectively managed at their school.

Course Outcomes

An understanding of the key legal requirements; your legal responsibilities for health and safety, and employer expectations.

An understanding of the principles for effective management of health and safety in schools.
