Description
The way in which we understand incidents and issues of racial harm informs how these issues are responded to in schools. This three part training offers new ways of framing these issues, which leads to new approaches in ‘first aid’ responses and management of issues/ incidents.
The course will cover:
•Understanding the range of racialised experiences and their impact on young people
•Exploring how children and young people navigate experiences and stereotypes
•Exploring perspectives on the use of racial language amongst young people, and approaches to addressing racial language
•Developing an understanding of trauma-informed first aid responses
•Examining school approaches to incident/issue management (dismissive, punitive, corrective, restorative)
•Rethinking intent and impact
•Working towards more restorative approaches for incident/issue management
