About the Health Promoting Schools program
The Wokingham Public Health team in partnership with schools and Wokingham Secondary Federation aim to support young people and families to live well in the Wokingham Borough through the Health Promoting Schools programme.
The Health Promoting Schools programme strives to create a healthy environment for schools, including pupils, staff, and the wider community through connecting with schools with local services that support health and wellbeing needs.

Our moderators check everything to keep you safe and our in-house counsellors are always on hand if you need extra support.

With over 350 lesson plans, online planning and assessment tools, mapping to SMSC, British Values, National Curriculum and the PSHE Association’s Programmes of Study and Ofsted Toolkit, Because it is a live resource we can keep updating/reacting based on need, so as well as SCARF for the planned curriculum. SCARF can make a positive and lasting difference in your school.

- Sport in Mind accredited Youth Volunteer Programme Sport in Mind are partnering with the National Citizen Service to provide a new and innovative programme for young people 16 and 17 years of age. This experience will be particularly beneficial to those who struggle with their own mental health as a way to improve this alongside other key skills.

Vaping
Vaping teaching resources
- The PSHE Association Vaping year 9 lesson pack is designed to follow on from the Year 9 lessons in their existing suite of drug and alcohol education lessons. This lesson will help students: understand the impact of influences, influencers and marketing on vaping-related choices and behaviours, explain the consequences of vaping, including the environmental cost, and analyse ways to challenge influences and misconceptions about vaping.
- National website - Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) is a public health charity set up by the Royal College of Physicians to end the harm caused by tobacco. Their website includes a range of resources including information on vaping in young people. ASH - Resources on youth vaping
- Teacher Training GOV.UK also offers a training module to support teachers and/or subject leads with understanding and delivering the drugs, alcohol and tobacco section of the statutory relationships,sex and health education curriculum.
- National support and information for young people: FRANK offers information about Vapes and Nicotine for under 18’s. Young people can contact Frank directly via phone, text or live chat
Vaping - Key Stage 3 form time activities School Zone vaping resources
- From the Department of Health & Social Care. Students learn about social pressures around vaping, its impact factors, and the effects of nicotine on the adolescent brain. Activities include:
- three bitesize PowerPoint sessions
- three films to support the activities
- teacher guidance document for supporting conversations around vaping

Tellmi app: Free online mental health support
The Tellmi app has been specifically designed for young people and is available for free to all 11-17 year olds living or going to school in Wokingham Borough. It is a safe, anonymous app where you can talk about anything. From anxiety to autism, dating to depression, or self-harm to self-esteem. Sharing your experiences with the Tellmi community. You can also get solution focused therapy.
Moderators check everything to keep you safe and their in-house counsellors are always on hand if you need extra support.
The Tellmi App can be downloaded from Play Store or Apple Store.
- Tellmi is an NHS-commissioned digital peer support app for children aged 11 to 18.
- 100% pre-moderated peer support, with pre-emptive counsellor intervention.
- Age-banded two years above and below (until aged 18).
- 600+ mental health self-management tools accessible 24/7.
- The service also includes Tellmi Therapy, a text based service delivered via the Tellmi app. Young people aged 11 to 18 can refer themselves or a referral can be made by parents, carers and professionals. There are currently no wait times: Referral link
Tellmi have co-created, with students from The Bulmershe School, a short film for Mental Health Awareness Week called 'Life is tough but we move' The theme is Movement: Moving more for our mental health and would be great if it can be shared during form time or assemblies.
